Our journey began in 2022, when Fabienne Deaton, a seasoned Montessori educator with a passion for fostering early childhood development, welcomed her first son into the world. As she and her husband embarked on the adventure of parenthood, they found themselves on a quest to discover a nurturing Montessori environment for their child — one that would not only provide exemplary education but also allow Fabienne to continue her professional journey.
Despite their diligent search, the options were limited. Determined to create a haven for children like their own, Fabienne envisioned a warm and welcoming Montessori community where every child could thrive. Thus, with a heart full of dedication and a vision of excellence, Starling Montessori School was born in 2024.
With over seven years of experience in Montessori education, backed by two master's degrees and two AMI Diplomas in Montessori education, Fabienne brought unparalleled expertise to the table. Her passion for empowering young minds and her unwavering commitment to quality education laid the foundation for our school's ethos.
Partnering with Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, we found not just a location, but a supportive community eager to collaborate in our mission. Nestled in the heart of the Capitol Hill district, our one-classroom school stands as a beacon of learning and growth for families in the area, including Fabienne's own.
At Starling Montessori School, we embrace each child's unique journey, fostering a love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom walls. Guided by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, we create an environment where curiosity is nurtured, independence is celebrated, and every child is empowered to reach their full potential.
As a family-founded and family-driven institution, we understand the profound trust parents place in us. It's a responsibility we cherish deeply, as we embark on this journey alongside each and every family, supporting and enriching the lives of our community, one child at a time.
Join us at Starling Montessori School, where every child's story is cherished.
The mission of Starling Montessori School is to create a nurturing environment that empowers young children to explore their natural curiosity, build confidence, and develop independence. Grounded in the Montessori philosophy, we provide personalized guidance and support to each child, respecting their individual pace of learning and growth.
Our dedicated Montessori-certified educators foster a love for learning through thoughtful practices that encourage exploration and self-discovery. We believe in the importance of collaboration between parents, teachers, and the environment to create a holistic approach to early childhood education that supports every child's unique potential.
At the heart of our philosophy lies a profound respect for the child, recognizing each one as a unique individual on their own journey of growth and discovery.
We firmly believe in building a community of families, where connections and shared experiences strengthen the fabric of our collective support system. This foundational principle guides our commitment to nurturing the child's natural development and independence, empowering them to explore and learn at their own pace.
Central to our mission is the provision of authentic Montessori education, a method proven to foster a child’s love of learning and respect for others. Coupled with thoughtful childcare, our approach is holistic, aiming not just at academic excellence, but at cultivating compassionate, curious, and confident individuals.
These core values stand as pillars supporting our overarching goal: to create an environment where children and families alike can thrive, grounded in mutual respect, support, and a shared commitment to lifelong learning.
Nestled within the historic Chapel-Annex building of Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, our school offers a truly distinctive setting in the heart of Washington D.C. With its captivating windows and exquisite ceiling, this space exudes charm and warmth.
